Here's the point I've been using when debating against my Christian friends (my parents are Catholic, and even they believe in evolution):
Okay, when they look through rock layers, they see how the things change, like dinosaurs. As they get closer to the surface, the fossils change, but look similar to the ones before.
The bible on the other hand, is words written by people. We all know people have the ability to lie, cheat, steal, and "sin". Also, people have the ability to tell stories. However, words are worth nothing compared to the evidence within the earth. The earth cannot lie.
Also, they have pieced together from all of this evidence a theory that makes 10x the amount of sense as creation.
The earth was a big ball of magma, made from floating matter circling the sun. Eventually it cooled. It had water. Lightning from friction in the stormy clouds with other chemicals that were in abundance on the earth formed amieno acids (sorry about spelling) which are basic building blocks of cells. Eventually they did form cells, and DNA, which multiplied and multiplied in the depths of the oceans, because that was the only place that the strong UV rays of the sun could not reach (our atmosphere was carbon dioxide then, and pinkish like mars', which is why there was no ozone layer). They used carbon dioxide bubbles in the water and other chemicals for food, and they converted carbon dioxide to oxygen. Eventually there became more and more oxygen in the atmosphere, forming an ozone layer. The bacteria were able to go to the surface, and were able to convert sunlight now, forming some of the first plants. They formed mats on the ocean floor, and when silt covered them up, they would go over it again, and again and again. These mats can be seen in western australia to this day. They could eventually move onto land. They mutated over millions of years by having their DNA rearranged by things like radiation. Those that were mutated in a good way outlived the non-mutated, the non-mutated died out, and those who were mutated mutated again, outliving those who weren't mutated, etc. The atmosphere became more and more oxygen. And here we are today!
